A Few Words from Simon:
Why Blossom?
My birth mother named me David Anthony Flower. Flowers blossom. But it was my adoptive who raised me. Who helped me blossom. My parents are my real parents. They did everything they could to help me reach my potential. Don't get me wrong we had some ups and downs, but I felt connected. I feel connected. I'm securely attached. I love them.
And I didn't realise what a great job they'd done until I started talking with other adoptees who didn't get as lucky as me. I was adopted at 5 weeks old and told so young I don't ever remember not knowing.
But being told early and a great upbringing doesn't always stop relinquishment trauma (grief, loss, anger, fear and shame) later in life. I wasn't conscious of any adoption trauma until I hit 40. When I found out that my teddy bear was a gift from my birth mother.
That unleashed an eruption of anger, feeling rejected and unloved. That led to a quest to heal, healing and a desire to help others.
Adoption is personal. My aim to make a difference. I've interviewed over 400 adoptive parents, adoptees, birth mothers and adoption professionals over the last 3 years. I've run webinars for many, many more.
My sole purpose is to understand what helps adoptees thrive and share that.
